Aide now runs an MCP server, so AI agents and assistants that speak the Model Context Protocol can use Aide directly: search your knowledge base, look up a customer's Shopify orders, read your support analytics and, signed in as a teammate, read conversations, add internal notes and refund or cancel orders. Every tool is a call to the Aide API, with the same permissions, approval rules and limits.
How it behaves
- Connect with an API key: point an MCP client at Aide's
/mcpendpoint with a workspace API key from Settings > Developers. A read key gives the agent knowledge search, knowledge sources and documents, order lookup and the analytics summary. - Or as a teammate: with a teammate's sign-in, the agent also finds the conversation for a Zendesk ticket or Front conversation, reads its messages and Aide's draft, adds internal notes, and refunds or cancels orders. Notes and order actions are recorded as that teammate.
- Only what the credential allows: an agent is shown only the tools its key or sign-in can use. API keys never see conversations, since they act as the workspace rather than a person.
- Approval rules still apply: a refund or cancellation above your approval limits waits for an admin, and the agent is told it's waiting.
- Answers the agent can act on: an error comes back with the reason, such as a missing order number or an unknown document, so the agent can correct itself; a rate limit says how long to wait.
- Same limits as the API: knowledge searches share your workspace's 60 a minute, and every tool call counts against the key's API rate limit.
- Claude and ChatGPT: since 2026-10-19 they connect by signing in with Aide (see "Connect
Aide to Claude and ChatGPT"); clients that let you set an
Authorizationheader can use a key.
