On a Shopify store with the Aide chat embed, a shopper who is logged in to their store account is now identified in the chat without any verification step. Aide can look up their orders and act on them straight away, and their past conversations follow them across devices.
How it behaves
- Logged-in shopper opens the chat: Aide knows who they are from their store account. Their name and email come from the store, and their orders are available to Aide and your team.
- Guest shopper: nothing changes. The chat works as before and asks for details when needed.
- Shopper logs out on a shared computer: the chat is signed out too, so the next person does not see their conversations.
- Shopper types a different email in the chat: the store account still decides whose orders Aide can see; an email typed in the chat can't unlock someone else's orders.
- Customer not yet synced from Shopify (for example, an account created a minute ago): the shopper is still recognised; their orders appear once the store sync has picked them up.
- Store has renamed the app's storefront path (Settings > Apps > Aide > App proxy URL):
automatic recognition needs the default
/apps/aidepath.
For developers
- New Shopify app proxy:
GET /apps/aide/identityon the storefront, forwarded by Shopify toGET /webhooks/shopify/proxy/identity. It answers{ "identity": { userId, hash, email?, name? } | null }, whereuserIdisshopify:<customer id>. Requests are verified with Shopify's app proxy signature. - The Shopify app now requests the
write_app_proxyscope.
