When a shopper asks Aide for a recommendation, the products it suggests now appear in a swipeable carousel under its reply in the chat widget: photo, name, price and a short line on why each one fits what they asked. On your Shopify storefront, shoppers can add a product straight to their cart from the chat.
How it behaves
- A shopper asks for a suggestion: Aide answers in words and shows up to four products from your synced Shopify catalogue, best fit first. It only suggests products it found in your Products knowledge source for that question, so turn that source on to get recommendations.
- The carousel: one tile per product, with the photo, name and price, and the original price struck through when the product is on sale. When a product's options are priced differently, the tile shows "From" the lowest price in stock, each option shows its own price, and choosing one shows that option's price, sale price and photo. It never scrolls by itself; arrows and a "1 of 3" count show where the shopper is. Tapping a tile opens the product's details, with Aide's line on why it fits.
- Options and stock: for a product with sizes, colours or other options, the details show one picker per option, as on your product page. Choices that are sold out, or don't exist with what the shopper already picked, are marked, and picking one that doesn't fit starts the other choices over. Products that allow backorders count as in stock. A product with every option sold out still shows, marked "Sold out".
- Add to cart: on your storefront, "Add to cart" puts the chosen option in the shopper's own Shopify cart and confirms once the store accepts it. If the store refuses (for example, the option just sold out), the shopper is told and can try again or open the product. When the store gives a reason, or adds only part of what was asked, the shopper sees the store's own message. On themes that support Shopify's standard storefront actions, your theme's cart count updates straight away and the button becomes "View cart", which closes the chat and opens your theme's cart. On other themes the cart count updates on the next page the shopper opens.
- Anywhere else: where the widget isn't on that store's own site (a blog or help centre on another domain), the button opens the product page instead.
- What never shows: draft or archived products, products from a disconnected or paused store, and products without a price.
- In the inbox: the conversation shows the same products under Aide's reply, with each why line, so your team sees exactly what the shopper was offered.
For developers
- Widget SDK: AI messages carry recommended products in the
product_carouselblock. ItsProducttype gains optional fields:options(what the variants differ by, each with its values, for example Size and Color),priceFrom(variants are priced differently andpriceis the lowest), and on each variantid(the store's variant id, used to add to the cart),options(its value for each product option),price, compareAtandimageUrl. - On a Shopify storefront the widget adds to the cart through Shopify's standard storefront
actions (
Shopify.actions.updateCart,openCart) when the storefront has them, and the Ajax cart otherwise. Theshopify:cart:lines-updateevent it emits carriesdetail: { source: "aide" }. The cart attribute_aide_conversationholds the conversation id (cnv_…); the attributes the cart already had, such as a gift note, are kept. - The block appears in AI messages from
/widgetconversations, inblockson/v1conversation messages, and in realtimemessage.created/message.patchedevents.
