When a shopper chats from a product page and asks what goes with it, Aide now recommends the complementary products you set up in Shopify, shown as product cards they can add to their cart. It also learns what your customers often buy together from your store's own orders, and uses that when you haven't set enough pairings. Aide never makes up a pairing.
How it behaves
- Asking what goes with it: "what else do I need?", "do you have accessories for this?" or "what goes well with it?" gets up to three products for the product on the page, each with a short line on why it goes with it.
- From the cart, on any page: when the shopper has products in their cart, "what else do you recommend?" or "what goes with what's in my cart?" gets their pairings too, wherever they are on the store. Up to three per cart item and six in all; a product already in the cart, or already suggested for another item, isn't suggested again.
- Your pairings come first: the complementary products you set in Shopify are suggested first, in the order you set them. Products your customers often buy with it only fill the remaining places.
- Worded by where they come from: your own pairings are presented as your store's suggestions. Products from your orders are presented as what other customers often buy with it, never as your recommendation.
- About to buy: when the shopper is ready to buy the product, Aide may point out what pairs with it. It doesn't bring them up in every reply.
- Which products: only products still on sale in your store. A product that is a draft, archived, or not yet synced is skipped. The product the shopper is looking at is never suggested as a card.
- No pairings: with none set and none learnt, Aide answers as before and doesn't invent suggestions.
- Product details: a product's pairings are also listed in its details in your knowledge base, so Aide can answer "does this go with the wax kit?" from other pages too.
- Setup: in Shopify, open the Search & Discovery app, go to Product recommendations, and add complementary products to a product. Aide picks them up when the product next syncs. An agent limited to certain knowledge sources only suggests them when your product catalogue is one of those sources.
Often bought together
- From your orders: every night Aide looks at your store's orders from the past year that weren't cancelled. Two products count as often bought together when they appear in the same order at least three times, and more often than chance would explain, so a best-seller that is in most orders doesn't get paired with everything.
- What's left out: items removed from an order, gift cards, and very large orders (more than 20 different products, such as wholesale orders) don't count.
- Small stores: it needs enough orders to find a pattern. A new or small store may see no learnt pairings at first; they appear as orders come in.
- Setup: nothing to do. It works for any connected Shopify store.
