Short answer
Final sale is a label a store puts on an item to say it cannot be returned or exchanged once purchased. Clearance stock, personalized products, intimate apparel and opened consumables are the usual candidates. The label moves risk from the store to the shopper, so it only works when the shopper saw it before paying. That means the words "final sale" belong on the product page, in the cart and in the order confirmation, not only in a policy page linked from the footer. When the disclosure is clear, a final-sale ticket is short. When it is buried, the customer feels tricked and the conversation turns into a dispute about fairness rather than policy.
Most final-sale tickets fall into one of three groups. Some customers simply did not notice the label and want to return a discounted jacket that does not fit. Some received a damaged or wrong item, which final sale does not cover in most stores, because the problem is the store's error rather than the customer's change of mind. And some bought a mix of final-sale and regular items on one order, such as #1071 with a clearance teapot and two full-price mugs, and need to know which parts can go back.
| Request | Final sale applies? | What support should do |
|---|---|---|
| Changed mind, wrong size | yes | explain the policy, offer sizing help for next time |
| Arrived damaged or wrong | usually not | treat it as a fulfillment problem |
| Mixed order | to the tagged items only | split the answer item by item |
The popular wrong move is refusing every request on a tagged item with the same canned line. That treats the customer who received a cracked teapot exactly like the one who changed their mind, and it is the fastest route from a support ticket to a chargeback. Final sale ends the return conversation for preference, not for defects.
Stores mark these products in Shopify with a tag such as final-sale and exclude that tag in their return rules. Aide reads the exclusion, never offers a return on a tagged item, and explains the policy to the shopper instead. If the item arrived damaged, the customer can describe what happened and Aide passes it to the team. How the full flow works: returns in chat under your Shopify rules.
