Short answer
Support-driven revenue is the sales a store can trace back to customer service conversations: an order placed after a sizing question was answered, an add-on bought on a support agent's suggestion, or an exchange that kept money in the store instead of refunding it.Most stores report support only as a cost. That view misses the conversations where support closes a sale. A shopper asks whether the 12-ounce mug fits under their coffee machine, gets a precise answer, and buys two. Another asks if the trail jacket is waterproof enough for a hiking trip and adds the matching gloves after seeing them suggested. Those orders would not exist without the conversation, yet they usually show up in analytics as direct or organic traffic.
Measuring it takes a clear attribution rule. The two common ones are an order placed from a link or product card shared in the conversation, and an order placed by the same shopper within a short window after the conversation ended. The first is strict and undercounts; the second is generous and can overcount. Report which rule you use, and keep it fixed so the trend means something.
| Source of the sale | How it is usually attributed |
|---|---|
| Product card or link in chat | added to cart from the conversation |
| Answer before checkout | order by the same shopper soon after the chat |
| Exchange instead of refund | revenue kept on the original order |
| Suggested add-on | item added after a recommendation |
The trap is chasing this number by turning support into a sales channel, with upsell scripts pushed into every reply. Customers notice, trust drops, and complaint conversations get worse. Support earns revenue by answering the buying question well and suggesting something only when it genuinely fits.
Aide Chat can show product carousels and "Pairs well with" suggestions taken from the store's own Shopify pairings and from what its customers buy together, never invented ones, and shoppers can add items to cart from the chat. Aide's analytics report Shopify orders and revenue that followed its chats, and the conversation shows a "Bought after this chat" badge on the order. The team can follow the cart as it changes during the conversation, explained on live cart in chat.
